CLASSICAL MUSIC

Symphony for the senses

The stage is set for the musical town of Schwetzingen! Spring, summer, autumn and winter - Schwetzingen offers a celebration of classical music for every season. The "Schwetzingen Festival", the biggest radio festival for classical music in the world, in spring, is followed by the biennial "Mozart Summer". In autumn, the Mozart Society hosts the "Schwetzinger Mozartfest®", and in the cold season, the Heidelberg theatre and its "Winter in Schwetzingen Baroque Festival" take place at the summer residence. The castle concerts (Mozart Society) and the concert series of the Evangelical Kantorei Schwetzingen and the Chamber Choir Quatro Forte complete the dance.

SCHWETZINGEN SWR FESTIVAL

Schwetzingen Festival

The Schwetzingen Festival presented operas and concerts from the Schwetzingen castle since 1952. According to the principle of the "Schwetzingen dramaturgy" - "Rediscover the old, initiate the new and give young talent a chance" -, rediscoveries from the 18th century are found on the festival programme side by side with world premiers, chamber and organ concerts with piano and song nights. Global stars of classical music and the "who is who" of contemporary composers are welcomed to Schwetzingen every year.

MOZART FESTIVAL AND CASTLE CONCERTS

Mozart town of Schwetzingen

In the second half of the year, the "Schwetzinger Mozartfest®" draws music enthusiasts from near and far to the Mozart city of Schwetzingen. This outstandingly popular classical music series is hosted by the Mozartgesellschaft Schwetzingen®, which  also offers additional musical journeys exploring the works of Mozart in its year-round castle concerts outside the festival as well.

MOZART SUMMER

Castle in flames

The Mannheimer Mozartsommer visits the Schwetzingen castle every other year with its high-class programme. This festival week covers anything from opera performances and experimental performances to musical comments by contemporary composers. The diversity of Mozart is also taken into consideration in humorous and challenging interpretations of his work.

BAROQUE FESTIVAL: WINTER IN SCHWETZINGEN

Rococo theatre

Since 2005, the theatre and Philharmonic Orchestra of the city of Heidelberg have been playing in the halls and the rococo theatre of Schwetzingen Castle. This months-long classical series is centred on an opera production, usually a rediscovery from the 18th century. Themed concerts complete this glamorous festival.
