SCHWETZINGEN CASTLE
THE ELECTORAL SUMMER RESIDENCE
The castle facilities with their splendid garden, cover an area in excess of 72 hectare at the centre of the town. The castle garden, with its fountains, wells, the wonderful mosque, its pavilions, temples and sculptures, was designed on the order of the last Prince-Elector, Charles Theodore (1742-99).
The circle is planted to match the season, set up strictly geometrically according to the French style. The idyllic corners of the adjacent wide-spread landscape garden with its lakes and many brooks invite to take long walks in their restored splendour. With the authentic restoration that was begun in 1975, the summer residence was also returned to its original purpose of being a place of culture, celebration and lingering.
